As an English and unemotional football fan, I thought C. Ronaldo deserved the Best Young Player award. Do you?

FIFA wasn't fair with Christiano, and many of us voted against him with unfair anger, because we did not have courage to blame Rooney for his repeated and stupid agressive acts.

As an English and unemotional football fan, I thought C. Ronaldo deserved the Best Young Player award. Do you?
Totally agree. Podolski is great and all. But compared to Ronaldo's star power, skills and charisma... I don't think Podolski should have made the cut. Ronaldo played his socks off and deserved the award. People can be so unfair.

As for Roony: chubby boy needs to keep his temper in check. And England needs to open her eyes to this problem.
Reply:it had 2 b ronaldo....but podolski it was....FIFIA is againt racism...but not against favoritsm
Reply:surely he didn't deserve that award.

at times C.R seemed selfish not making good crosses after nice run.his lameness cost PORTUGAL.

ON the other hand PODOLSKI not only scored many goals he assisted KLOSE in scoring goals.he was full with energy, stamina dribbling skills. Lukas was undoubtedly the best y0ung player. though i think C.R would get the second spot.

that's it
Reply:I thought C. Ronaldo deserved a nice swift kick in the pants.

Were I there, I would have administered it myself amidst a blowing gale induced by the pleasures of the six demon bag

Reply:Rooney was at fault not Ronaldo and yes I agree. Ronaldo is a gifted player Roony isn't.
Reply:Yes, I thought so too, the way he ignored the crowd's boos and concentrated on his game, was exceptional. He was undoubtedly the most influencial player for Portugal and one of the great stars of the tournament.
Reply:He was definitely one of the best young players of the tournament but the diving(you can't say it did n't happen a lot) gives a bad impression of the game to the youngsters(Zidane got voted before the headbutt). He played well enough to deserve it but cheated him self out of the award. Not the Rooney incident just all the other dives, winks and provoking through out the world cup!
Reply:i am not english and i disagree with you.

nobody can take credit away from cristiano ronaldo for his amazing ball skills and sensational solo runs that often eat up the length of the field.

but taking a closer look as to how many of them have ended in the opponents nets leaves one dissapointed.

i would rather its a case of a contorted attitude in a person with immense talent and potential.

as for his performance at the 2006 FIFA world cup. how many goals were scored off ronaldo's passes? none.

and the only one he sored was off a penalty!!

cristiano ronaldo often forgets that soccer is a team game and the ultimate objective is to score goals. i agree with those who are of the view that if you play the game, then play beuatifully - joga bonita!

i guess all the sheen is lost if you are dispossessed often in your solo runs or if you cap a spectacular run with a mispass. i would rather watch a 'defensive' match rather than a match with more than four fruitless 'runs' by cristiano ronaldo.

all this was amply illustrated in the portugal germany third place match where ronaldo after a zigzag run made a back pass without looking in that direction which was a bit too long for the defender, and germany almost made a goal out of that pathetic piece of 'skills'.

if you check the efficiency quotient of the player on the field and value it more than the 'wow' effect that he brings, ronaldo would never make it to your list of favourite players.
Reply:Well I'm not English, but I think he deserved it too.

It's so much easy for people to blame someone who is not at fault, rather than thoses who are.
Reply:i think he deserved the award. he was certainly portugal's best player.
Reply:I fully agree. And like you, being unemotional, FIFA and the French to punish Zidane for his most unsporting behaviour. Every sportsman knows 'insults' will always be thrown against each other in heated moments though never meant. Ziadane is a seasoned soccer player, there is aboslutely no excuse to behave the way he did in front of a world audience. The French shame themselves when they 'forgive' him and J.Chrac indirectly endorse violence in sports by calling the guilty 'virtuoso'. Zidane is a universal disgrace!
Reply:No, I don't think so. Podolski played better than Ronaldo. He got more votes on the Internet just because he played well in Manchester United. But Poldi is different. He played in Cologn so that he's not as famous as C. Ronaldo. Poldi is the right man.

C. Ronaldo's behaviour on the pitch sometimes was bad~~~~~~
Reply:it's over finshed get over it...
Reply:YA HE DID IT,BUT THIS TIME HE IS NOT UNWELL OR MISUNDERSTANDING WITH THE PLAYER OR COACH.
Reply:of course NOT
Reply:On July 6, 2006, Podolski was announced as the first Gillette Best Young Player award winner. Runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo had been favored to win the award, but concerns about his fair play counted against him. Holger Osieck, head of the FIFA Technical Study Group that selected the winner, praised Podolski as "a key element in Germany's attack." The German attack was the most potent in the World Cup due to his partnership with Miroslav Klose and Podolski was a worthy winner for mine.
Reply:Thought Podolski was the better player.
Reply:He is not the best young player. He could be if he stops showboating.
Reply:cristiano ronaldo definitely deserves to win the best yung player award he was outstanding. you do not sound like an unemotional fan you sound like aperson that has good sense and judgement. i am an english fan but was sort of hoping they loose.
Reply:If he wanted to win the award he should have made sure people watched him play football not watch him fall over at every touch which is why he did`nt win it ( check the FIFA report )
Reply:yeah .....definetly! ! !
Reply:in a train compartment is wayne rooney.. c'ronaldo, a old lady and a stunning blonde girl.... the train enters a tunnel... they hear a loud SLAP... the train comes out the tunnel..

the blonde thinks: "i bet ronaldo tried to touch up the old lady and got a slap"..

the old lady thinks: i bet he tried to touch up the blonde and got a slap"

rooney thinks: "when is the next tunnel.. i want to slap him again.."

Lukas Podolski was very good, but C. Ronaldo have shown an amazing improvement of his play and he made the difference for Portugal.
Reply:No, I don't think so and I'm not an English fan. First because the prize included fair-play and C.Ronaldo was not a symbol of that. Not only because of Rooney(he is his team-mate!) but for other things he did too, like diving again and again the last 2 matches for example. And second I didn't see him doing sth helpful for the team. He plays for himself not for the group, not for the success of the team, but for his own success. It can't be a prize for that.
Reply:Agree, didn't really like him before, but he came of age in this world cup. Still remember when he couldn't run more than 15 feet without falling over at Man. U. Maybe a bit old for 'young player', Theo should of played and got it, Lennon had an outside chance. C. Ronaldo for 'Golden Ball.'

Don't understand why Zidane got it, he did nothing to deserve it (even forgetting the head-butt).

As for Rooney, what a cliche, the bookies must have been swearing as all the punters came to collect there winnings.

Also English, but very emotional (just not stupid).
Reply:i dont think ronaldo should have won it, he has amazing ability and could be the best player in the world, but he's skill is wasted because he rarely produces an end product. he's job is to get the ball in the box and give the strikers somthing to work with, he rarely does that. i think valencia of ecuador should not have been overlooked, he is relativly unknown and was playing for an unfancied team, and yet he was very impressive in every game he played.
Reply:Christiano Ronaldo was DEFINITELY the best young player of the World Cup so deserved the award. I don't like the man but he was definitely robbed. Not on really. Just more proof that Fifa are a law unto themselves and have far too much power. Real injustice.
Reply:Noway! Podolski is 10 times better than Ronaldo. And FYI i am not english, and think Ronaldo is a good player, but he dives to much and he's too immature. Podolski was brilliant and deserved to win Young player award...
Reply:as an england, manchester united and ronaldo fan,i have to say his football was superb, but his antics, diving and acting over shadowed his undoubted world class ability

mike
Reply:like you I do not get emotional about football, however I can't agree with you over Ronaldo. The award that FIFA give is not just for talent on the field of play but for sportsmanship also. If you think that the player displayed sportsmanship then I have to wonder why you failed to see the antics of this very talented young players attempts at trying to gain an unfair advantage in so many of the games he took part in.

All the best.

Kev, Liverpool.
Reply:If any english player had done that we would have been all backing the player it's all part of football it is about turn the drama to your advantage
