Is 1gb of ram enought thats what my laptops got i always thought c drive gb were more important till today?

1 gig is good, 2 gigs are great! HDD is good at around 200GB or more.

Nope. RAM is faster. The more the better. 1GB is fine.
Reply:1gb of ram should probably be considered a standard ammount these days (and a minimum if using vista). Upgrading the memory would give better performance though.





Basically ram is the memory that programs use when running your hard drive is more for permanent storage. If you start to run out of ram your PC starts to use a paging file on the hard drive. Ram is faster than your hard drive though so its better to have more of that if possible.

With Vista, which is visually and resource intensive compared to previous versions, it would be more than the minimal recommendations, but 2GB or more would be ideal. For peak performance, having more RAM and faster Hard drive access is something to consider. RAM is where a program that is running is stored. While not in use or is too big to be placed in the RAM, it is stored on your hard drive (which would likely be C:). For peak performance, you want to eliminate excess programs that using RAM and tweak the performance of your hard drive so that transfers between the hard-drive and RAM are minimal and efficent.





This is because the hard drive is physcally the slowest part of the computer and having more RAM will reduce your need to access the hard drive as often to fetch data. Having said that, this is the reason to why hard drive manufactures have been advertising their newer faster spindle rates, reduced seek times and bigger cache sizes. These factors really do make a difference in how long it takes to find data and place it in the RAM upon request. Overall , RAM is one thing to consider, but until a cheaper and faster means of storage is available, your hard drive, will always be the slowest and commonly overlooked component. To tweak memory usage and hard drive performance:

Reply:1Gb is fine, allthough if your running Vista i would 2GB would make a big difference, most laptops ar between 80 -120GB





allthough you can get bigger hard disk for laptops.





but it also depends on what you use you laptop, if you do video editing, programming using visual studio, gaming, i would go for 2gb as well
Reply:for XP, 1GB RAM is beautiful, but for running Vista, you should get 1.5 or 2 GB or more of RAM, because Vista is memory-heavy. HDD space is good, but RAM is what matters most for the speed of your system. my system has an 80 GB hard drive, and I also have a 160GB external HDD, so I have all the storage space I need, but that's just me.
Reply:1 gb of ram is the standard memory ffor using windows xp,although the microsoft knowledge base say 128mb is enough it will struggle using any less than 512


i have 1.5gb of ram in my p.c but to be honest i rarely see the improvement from when i had 1gb unless i am doing video editing or anything that takes alot of system resources


your hard drive capacity is also a important factor aswell,with loads of dvd movies and music being downloaded by the gigabyte a hard drive of at least 100gb is essential,and many users insist on at least 250gb or even more

Reply:1 gig ram is generally enuff to run home use apps and MOST GAMES although some of the newer hi end games require 2 + gig of fast ram~ if your laptop is dragging perhaps its time to clean it up ...I personally run 4 gig of fast ram and a pair of 600 gig hi speed hdds, but not everyone really needs that extreme a setup.. I probably dont either but ...
Reply:1gb is good for like listening to music and some minor video editing but if ur gonna do anything like major video editing or major multitasking get 2gb. Or just get a mac. :)

1Gb of RAM is fairly standard at this point. New operating systems like Windows Vista are very memory intensive - it's not unusual for people to have 2-4Gb of RAM in a Vista Premium PC.


For standard users running Windows XP, 1Gb is usually enough.
