My friends mother is making her eat nothing but fruit and drink nothing but water b/c she thinks she is fat?
No thats not safe esp for teenage girls who need iron and calcium - this boarders on child abuse and should be reported to a health professional and or police!
Reply:No it is not safe and it is not healthy. Your friend will be very malnourished.
Reply:Not safe or healthy. If it goes on all summer she could get extremely sick. (or worse)

If it is true, it is child abuse and should be reported to authorities.
Reply:Not safe or healthy at all. Please tell her teacher or a guidance counselor. This is child abuse. She will likely end up in the hospital with kidney failure and worse.
Reply:maybe she is fat
Reply:Your friend's mom need a good nutrition course...fruit is still full of natural sugars and if too much is consumed, there will be no weight loss what so ever. This is terribly unhealthy and what you friend needs in a balanced diet, which includes lean meats, vegetables, grains, fruits and even a little bit of fat to ensure that her body functions properly. This is a bad idea and I can't believe any one would do this to their child, not good.
Reply:that IS child abuse..since it is probably, most likely, against your friend's will.

tell her mom to make her a sandwhich, and take her for a jog for crying out loud.
Reply:No this isn't healthy - it will only set her body up to think it is in starvation mode and actually rebound by gaining more weight once she starts to eat whole foods again.

This girl can get very sick from this "diet" show her some of these websites and tell her mom you'll be her fitness buddy:)

Reply:It has fiber in it so maybe for protein she should add peanut butter or rice because I don't think she should just eat fruit all the time. I think she should eat meals but light meals. If she's worried about the weight gain she should have 6 small meals like finger foods thats if she ask for your help otherwise thats not healthy so I say report it. That could be unsafe.
Reply:This is very unhealthy. How old is this girl? How long has she been making her do this? It could even be considered child abuse or endangerment if she keeps it up. If you see that she's showing signs of falling ill you should enlist the help of an adult and turn this woman in. I'm concerned for her.
Reply:that is not a good diet for anyone your friend needs protien also cutting down and eating smaller portions at meals and have a fruit or veggie for snack is the best way to do things......if a person gets too much water in a day it can be harmful it can cause seizures because it delutes the salts in our bodies.........
Reply:NO .. call Child Protective Services.
Reply:it isnt safe. there are food groups and recomended daily amounts to eat for a reason. i believe and i'm no expert so don't quote me on this but i believe high levels of fruit which would essentially be frutose could cause flatulence, hyperuricemia, and probably alot of other stuff too since she wont be getting any protien.

why don't you suggest to your friend that they (her and her mom) go to a dietician to help come up with a meal plan to help her loose weight and help her decide a healthy way to do it. if she needs to loose wieght at all.

if this doesnt work you do really need to tell someone. hth.
Reply:i just think ur friend is a compulsive liar! no parent does that to their child!
Reply:unless your friend has fully agreed to this diet and is happy about it, then the mother is absolutely hurting her. you cant deprive a child of food. maybe cutting back on fast food and soda isnt a bad thing. but if she is giving her just fruit and water then she is depriving her of the nutrition she needs. and in my book, thats child abuse.
Reply:Is she fat? If so...then being fat is probably a heck of a lot unhealthy than eating fruit and water even for a year.
Reply:Not safe or healthy. Call CPA or write an anonymous note to a guidance counselor. If you care about your friend don't let her go through this... help her.
Reply:No it is not safe. The body needs protein. She can starve to death. This is child abuse.

Here is more info about the nutrients that are needed by the body:

Reply:whoa sound unhealthy...too much of everything is never healthy....i thik she'll lose alots of weight and especially muscle (which is definitely you dont wants to lose)...and when she's eat normal again she'll gain..if she dont workout!
Reply:This is not a good Idea, she really needs to take in some protein and even a little fat, someone needs to tell her mom that fruit has a lot of sugar in it which creates insulin spikes, this pushes sugar into your muscles and if this sugar isn't burned it will turn into stored energy (fat). She needs to talk to a nutritionist.
