Can a doctor give me a D & C if I think I'm pregnant but I don't really want to know if I am or not?

I think I'm pregnant. I don't want to take a pregnancy test. The thought of an abortion kills me. Can a doctor give me a D %26amp; C without running a pregnancy test, that way if I'm pregnant it will terminate and if not then oh well? It's been about a week and a half since I got pregnant, if I am pregnant. Distressed.

There is no way a doctor will do that. As a patient your doctor has to allow you to make an informed decision. It might be a tough decision to make...but you should definitely go find out if you are pregnant or not. Delaying it won't change the end result, and if you wait too long an abortion may not even be an option anymore. If you are just not ready to be a mom, there is always adoption...there are thousands of loving couples in the world that are just waiting for a baby.
Reply:The doctor will have to give you a pregnancy test before any type of abortion is done. Surgical abortion is not your only choice at this point. You can do the medical abortion and induce a miscarriage that way.





It is way too soon to tell if you are pregnant anyways. You will have to wait for your first missed period to get an accurate test done.

I think you should of thought of protection before you got pregnant. Why do a d%26amp;c if you are pregnant b/c it would be just like an abortion(you'd be killing the baby anyway)
Reply:i don't think so. there might be rules in the hospital/clinic re. (surgical) procedures. the doctor has to primarily know why you need a D%26amp;C in the first place. it is usually done if a woman had a miscarriage, blighted ovum or uterine bleeding. to have a miscarriage, you have to be pregnant in the first place. you say the thought of an abortion is unpleasant, but if you're pregnant, whether you know it or not and you get a D%26amp;C, that's what a D%26amp;C still is, an abortion. it's all a matter or semantics. abortion or D%26amp;C. if the results are the same. removal of the ovum inside you. and do you think that the thoughts inside your head would not be there after the procedure? you'd still think about it. sorry to sound preachy...

It seems like you're trying to ease your guilty conscience, but I hate to break it to you, no reputable doctor is going to do this without knowing if you're pregnant.


Avoiding reality doesn't make it go away.
